Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH

The Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH (AIT) is Austria’s largest non-university research institute with more than 50 years of experience in laboratory development, research and accredited testing. AIT provides research and technological development to realise essential innovations for the next generation of infrastructure related technologies in the low-emission transport field. Unlike universities that are focusing on basic research and addressing short-term exploitation, AIT covers the entire spectrum from taking up emerging technologies, first proof of concepts, over applied research to transferring these emerging technologies into specific applications up to demonstrators and prototyping. AIT is an internationally recognized centre for electric drive concepts involved in testing and evaluation of electric components including wide range of measurements for cells, battery modules and packages. AIT’s Materials and Battery Research laboratory is dedicated to development of new electrode materials for LIB, creation of new designs for batteries, improving the energy capacity of electrode materials, improving stability and cycling etc

In NanoBat AIT will provide the know-how of Lithium Ion and Beyond Lithium Ion Battery technology. We will provide in particular conventional graphite (anode) coatings for the analysis of SEI formation during cycling (WP4). Furthermore, AIT will provide suitable materials and coatings for Mg-Ion batteries, which will be analysed as beyond LIB technology as part of WP4. In addition, AIT will use its battery testing and characterisation expertise to support nano-scale measurements of passivation layer formation during cycling of the battery cells as well as the optimisation of the test setup. In its role as specialist on battery technology, AIT will support the entire project with its electrochemical analysis and testing capabilities. As one of the research partners, AIT will contribute significantly to the dissemination process of the project.
